Abagaka baito abanene, naende aba amasikani: "I used to drink amaru too, but I stopped" Mzee Simon Mochache. Mwanyagetinge.com/2015.
Omogaka Mochache told us that he thanks the Lord for his life. He told us that his health is weakening each day and that he cannot hear very well. He told us that he was a farmer during most of his life. He said that while he was a young man, he got a job as a sweeper at Chamji Tea Factory in Kericho but the job did not pay well. As a result, he returned home to continue farming.
Nowadays, there are all kinds of complicated jobs
"Life in the old days was very easy" Omogaka Mochache told us. He continued saying that "Our main work as young men was to look after the cows, goats and sheep but now there are all kinds of complicated jobs"
"I used to drink too but I stopped"
As a young boy growing up in Kitutu Masaba, Omogaka Mochache told us that he was also a clan warrior. What was the job of a clan warrior? We asked omogaka Omochache. "We were the soldiers for the clan. We protected our village from cattle thieves and intruders" Mzee Mochache replied.
We asked him if he has any advise for our young people. Omogaka Mochache told us that young people should listen to their elders especially in matters of marriage. His view on marriage is that anyone marring should first be independent before tying the knot. He said that it is not good for a man to be married if he is not ready to support his wife and children.
Omogaka Mochache's second advise to young people is to stop drinking amaru and chang'aa. " I used to drink amaru too but I quit" Omogaka Mochache said. He added that drinking liquor can only bring misunderstanding in your family, which is not healthy.
